Sainte Foy (France)
This hidden gem is nestled amongst big hitting resorts such as Tignes and Val d’Isere in the Tarentaise region – but it should not be missed. Yes there are only four lifts, but these open up a huge amount of fantastic skiing, especially the off piste in the Vallon du Clou over the back. 10km powder faces and lines through the trees lead you down through ancient farming villages that are a world away from the mega resorts further up the valley. I’m looking forward to returning in late January with some sporting legends for another week in this awesome resort.
Five Ski Club Freshtracks holidays are heading to Sainte Foy this season, including our Mountaincraft Course held just before Christmas.
Bruson/Verbier (Switzerland)
One for a bad weather day and the off piste tree runs. Bruson is a little-explored part of the vast 4 Vallées ski area – but nowhere is better on snowy days. It is just a quick hop down to Le Châble and then a new gondola whisks you to the small but seriously impressive ski area. On a powder day this area is so much fun and the lines can be never ending!
Explore the 4 Vallées with a Ski Club Leader this winter, based in Verbier from December 17th to April 8th, or on one of the three Freshtracks holidays heading to Nendaz this season.
Flaine (France)
Flaine is my home on the mountain and also for whoever I am sharing it with. I have a place out there and could not have chosen a better spot. So whether I’m out there with my young nieces and nephews or ex racers, the Grand Massif ski area has it all – from steep challenges to great mellow off piste and some fantastic wide, open pistes that suit the entire family.
Visit one of the Ski Club’s two chalets in Flaine this season with Freshtracks or take an Instructor Led Guiding session around the resort.
Kitzbühel (Austria)
Visiting this world-famous Austrian resort is a real must do. For iconic skiing at is best there is almost nowhere better and skiing the legendary Streif downhill run on the Hahnenkamm mountain is an experience not to be missed. But if you’d rather stick to the more gentle groomers then one of the country’s biggest linked intermediate areas awaits.
Be sure to tune in to Ski Sunday on January 22nd to catch all the action from the Hahnenkamm Race or explore the area with Ski Club Leaders – in resort from January 7th to April 1st.
Zinal (Switzerland)
Not only is this one of the Alps’ most picturesque resorts, but the skiing is awesome and their set up is fantastic – especially since the cable-car link to neighbouring Grimentz was built. So much so that CDC Performance (the race coaching company I set up with my husband Dougie Crawford) are set to return to Zinal once again this winter.
Try out the slopes of the linked Grimentz-Zinal ski area with Ski Club Freshtracks this winter, who have three holidays heading out this season.
